Maternal and Child Health in Kamuli:
maternal health emphasizes a health systems and quality improvement approach to reduce direct and indirect causes of maternal morbidity and mortality. with help existing structres, We address the major direct causes of maternal mortality, including postpartum hemorrhage (PPH), peripartum maternal infection, and prolonged labor. We also address the indirect causes that constitute an increasing burden of maternal mortality including prevention and treatment of anemia, HIV, malaria, tuberculosis, hypertension and other chronic diseases.
We apply a health systems lens to work with national, regional and district referal Health facilities and health workers to strengthen essential health system functions and to continuously improve utilization and quality of maternal and newborn care across the system (community, primary, referral) and life cycle (antenatal care, birth, postnatal care) continuums of care.
We support work at three primary levels to advance coverage and quality of high-impact integrated maternal and newborn and postpartum family planning services in low-resource settings:
Reproductive Health and Information
Pregnancies in youth and adolescents are on the rise most especially in rural areas like Kamuli, Buyende, Jinja and Iganga with more adverse outcomes for both mothers and infants, including preterm birth, low birth weight, and prenatal and neonatal mortality. Moreover, rapid repeat pregnancies are more common in adolescents in these areas, making this an area of need for EMU. The program looks at Strengthening and scaling up Family planning along with the maternal, newborn and child health care in MARPS.
Also reaching girls, their partners, and gatekeepers, BodaBoda riders to take the frontline to ensure this problem can be solved whether they are mothers or fathers already or not, with appropriately targeted Family Planning information and services.
By implementing this program, Eden ministries Uganda intend to ensure reduction in unnecessary loss of life among expectant mothers, girls and the health of infants.
Increase the likelihood that children most especially girls will complete their education without engaging in parenthood at tender age, reduction of the numbers of orphans, and attendant risks, including early pregnancy and also link ready mothers or women to contraceptive services whenever an unmet need is identified.
HIV Prevention, Counselling and Testing
This program focuses on increasing awareness of HIV Counseling and Testing services among Most at Risk populations and key populations (MARPS). MARPS such as sex workers, long distance truck drivers and their clients, persons who inject drugs, men who have sex with men, fishing communities, mobile workers and BodaBoda riders, PLHIV and Youth in and out of school were among the priority population reached with HIV Counseling and Testing services.
We do this through spreading information among communities, schools and outreaches by encouraging people to access HIV Counseling and Testing services as couples. This is an opportunity to assess a couple’s HIV risk, identify possible prevention methods, and avail behavior changes communication messages and to decide on positive living if the couple tests HIV positive.
Also we emphasize safer sex among targeted beneficiaries through effectively equipping people with knowledge about the safer methods like Condom use to both male and female condoms but also creating awareness amongst males circumcision which reduces at the risk of one getting HIV.
Quality Health Promotion
EDEN Ministries Uganda aims at promoting accessibility to health and wrap around services, volunteers reach out to the community to empower them with basic skills to mobilize, identify and refer community members in need of health services .
